Hi, My name is TIENTCHEU KADJI JORDAN a 4th year student of the department of Veterinary Medicine in the University of Buea. I will like to share my one month experience as an intern at Providence CIG layer farm Bafoussam branch Providence CIG layer farm is located at Basse – Bamougum village, Bafoussam III, West region of Cameroon. My first days were filled with learning the basics: how to feed the fowls, understanding how the watering system works, the dos and the don’ts in a poultry. I finally had the chance to go practical, it has been theory since the first year. Feeding could be the single most important determinant of a successful table egg producing business. Layer birds look so nice but can be very cannibalistic to each other. Together with my mates, we were able to have a glimpse of what large scale production could be, the commitment, financial constraints and many more, not forgetting the man power needed to run a successful farm. Working with the CEO himself, Mr. Justin gave me an in-depth knowledge of raising birds, both layers and broilers at all stages of the production, their feed requirements and all the skills in maximizing profit. My sincere gratitude to Mr. Justin and his family for the hospitality and the wonderful experience. Providence CIG layer farm is a farm with great potentials, so much hospitality. I will recommend this farm to other young Cameroonians hungry for knowledge in the poultry sector, I can say with certainty their expectations will be met in all aspects. Working in Providence CIG Layer Farm located at Basse village of Baffoussam III in the west region of cameroon, with Mr. Nkenganyi Tiku Justin being the CEO, for my internship was one of my best experiences on poultry production and layer farming in particular. I was able to gain practical knowledge on the management of the day to day running of a layer farm, together with a good inside on feed formulation for maximum productivity on both layers and broilers at all stages of production ( starter, grower, finisher) along side understanding the business because that was my main objective upon going for the internship. I`m proud to say that the knowledge gathered from the internship along side other class knowledge is helping me to be a good poultry farmer today and a good consultant to other farmers and people aspiring to get into the business. I`ll recommend Providence CIG farm for young agriculturarists who have the mindset on making a difference in the poultry production business of our country to visit the farm to gain knowledge before commencing with theirs.
